Irymple burst out of the blocks to start the game, kicking four unanswered goals in the first term and adding a further four in the second term.

But Ouyen United were able to mount a response with five second-quarter goals bringing the margin to 17 at the main break.

They edged closer still in the third term thanks to goals from Josiah Farrer and Simon Brown.

In between, however, Irymple's Nick Pezzaniti brought his goal tally for the afternoon to five.

With just nine points in it with a quarter to play, the stage was set for a massive final term and it didn't disappoint.

A pair of goals to Tom Morrish kickstarted what was a memorable finish for the Kangas.

Swallow Nick Mee put his team back in front, by one point, with a monster long-range effort.

Not long after, Brad Vallance was able to execute in similar circumstances at the other end to put the Kangas ahead by what would be the final margin.

Vallance took out both individual honours on offer, the John Groves Medal and the AFL Victoria Country Medal for best on ground.
