VICTORIAN Farmers Federation (VFF) president David Jochinke has warned drought in the Mallee is on a “knife’s edge”, with the likelihood of a failed season for dryland farmers.

Having attended a VFF branch meeting in Manangatang on Tuesday night, Member for Mildura Peter Crisp said farmers were worried the NSW drought was “crossing into northern Victoria”.

The ominous warning followed Tuesday’s unseasonable top of 29.9C, which Mr Crisp described as grim “sign for the future”.
