Mallee crops expected to fall due to worsening conditions

WORSENING conditions throughout the Mallee are expected to drive down the state’s winter crop.

The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics’ latest crop report said that while crops in the Wimmera and western districts were expected to boost Victorian winter crop production, they would not offset expected production falls in the Mallee.

It said below average winter rainfall and low soil moisture levels had reduced yield prospects across the region.
