AS the annual Pooncarie Cup approaches, the Pooncarie Racing Club’s new president is hoping the event can be supported by the community.
Mildura horse racing identity Lyle Massey has taken over from Col Wakefield as the club’s president following Wakefield stepping back from the role he held since 1983 and is looking to take the race club and its September 29 signature event forward.
Massey, 59, has been around horse racing for most of his life, from being a stablehand to trackwork rider, owner/trainer, Mildura Racing Club committee member, trainer to syndicate manager, but always had an affinity for Pooncarie.
