REIGNING SFNL premiers Irymple are through to the finals series after a 9.8 (62) to 4.14 (38) win at home over Imperials on Saturday.
The gritty win, which saw the Swallows weather a storm of Imperials inside 50s early in the last quarter to kick the last three goals of the game, ensured the Henshilwood Oval-based side leapfrogged their opponents and secured a semi final berth against Robinvale-Euston next weekend.
The Swallows jumped out to an early lead, 17 points up at the first break, however Imperials chipped away at the deficit and if not for some poor conversion in front of goal may have been able to pinch the win.
"Imps guys play a very tough game of football, the contested battle is always one we need to win against them, that was our focus," Irymple co-coach Todd George said.
"We had to be good and tight because we know how good they can be.
"I'd like to think we broke pretty even around the stoppages and stuff like that and our pressure around those guys at the time was good so the rushed kicked they got out they didn't have time to lace anybody out."
Elsewhere minor premiers Ouyen United made a statement with a huge 25.14 (164) to 11.10 (76) win over second-placed Red Cliffs and Robinnvale-Euston did enough for a 14.13 (98) to 9.12 (66) win over Mildura.
In the twilight game at George Gordon Oval Wentworth won 11.9 (75) to 8.12 (60) over Merbein.
In the netball Imperials upset Irymple 39-35, Ouyen United defeated Red Cliffs 79-30 and Mildura won over Robinvale-Euston 48-37.
Wentworth won 53-50 over Merbein to finish their season on a high but just fall short of finals on percentage.
