IMPERIALS are back in the SFNL top four after a gritty 10.10 (70) to 7.12 (54) win over a dangerous Wentworth at George Gordon Oval in Saturday’s round 16.
The Green and Whites now sit on 40 points, equal with third-placed Robinvale-Euston but trailing by percentage.
Their cause was helped by ladder leaders Ouyen United holding off reigning premiers Irymple, with the Kangas winning 9.13 (67) to 9.8 (62) at Henshilwood Oval to put the Swallows down to fifth.
The Swallows have a bye in round 17 while Imperials play Ouyen United at City Oval – with a win assuring Imperials play finals.
If Robinvale-Euston also defeat South Mildura at Robinvale then Irymple will not be able to make finals and try to defend their title.
Should Imperials lose their clash with Irymple in round 18 would decide who out of the two would play finals.
In the round’s other matches Red Cliffs defeated Mildura 16.11 (107) to 7.5 (47) and South Mildura 9.10 (64) overcame winless Merbein 4.4 (28).
On the netball court oin A Grade Ouyen United upset reigning premiers Irymple 37-26, South Mildura edged out Merbein 48-44 and Wentworth kept themselves within reach of finals with a 50-34 win over Imperials.
Mildura also enjoyed a rare win, defeating Red Cliffs 54-29.
