THE role diet can play in mental health shouldn’t be ignored and it’s important to be mindful about how food can influence mood, according to dietitians and nutritionists.

With Australia’s Mental and Physical Health Tracker for 2018 showing high number of Australians with chronic physical illnesses like obesity and excessive drinking also having a mental illness, experts say it’s important to consider the part of lifestyle aspects including diet.

Mildura nutritional therapist Danielle Wilcock said while proper medical intervention was critical to the treatment of mental health, what we put into our body needed to be considered when it comes to recovery.
