Egged on in chook welfare campaign

EGG consumers are increasingly concerned about animal welfare, according to Sunraysia Residential Service’s Benetook Farm manager Michael Marks.

Mr Marks, who manages a flock of 1600 birds roaming freely in a two-hectare paddock, said the most common questions from customers were linked to the chooks’ wellbeing.

Australian Eggs, an industry-owned research organisation, yesterday announced it would conduct a major customer survey in a bid to ­secure a sustainable future for the industry.
