Greens' bid for Victorian container deposit scheme scheme falls

LABOR and the Coalition have voted down a Greens push to introduce a container deposit scheme in Victoria.

Greens MP Nina Springle’s Bill, which proposed the introduction of a refund scheme for recycled bottles and cans to take effect from November 2019, was debated in the Upper House of State Parliament this week.

Liberal MP David Davis said consultation with industry had been “scant” and that economic modelling for the particular scheme proposed had not been done.
