MILDURA renters may no longer need their landlords permission to nail a hook in the wall or install anchors to stop furniture falling on children, with the Labor Government announcing more than 130 reforms that will strengthen renters’ rights.
The reforms will also ensure every rental home has functioning stoves, heating and deadlocks, as well as limiting rent increases to once a year and capping bonds at four weeks’ rent. In a win for pet owners, residential rental providers will be able to refuse the right of a tenant to have a pet only by order of the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
Local property investor Jeannine Pascale said while she welcomed the legislation changes for animal lovers, common sense must come into play.
