CONSTRUCTION of a suburban garage would be subject to more public scrutiny than the Murray-Darling Basin Plan’s implementation, an inquiry has been told.
The Murray-Darling Basin Royal Commission has zeroed in on a controversial overhaul of the Menindee Lakes as a key area of focus, with commissioner Bret Walker SC questioning whether the full extent of its potential impact on the environment was known.
According to a preliminary business case, the Menindee project would allow the lakes’ drought reserve to reduce from 480GL to 80GL and the end of all fruit growing along the lower Darling River.
