TWO extra block banks will be installed in the lower Darling River to help store an emergency water supply for farms upstream of Pooncarie.
Member for Murray Austin Evans yesterday said NSW Regional Water Minister Blair had agreed to fund construction of the banks to store water for mostly pastoral properties between Pooncarie and Menindee that were facing the prospect of a dry river.
The Darling is forecast to stop flowing from the Menindee Lakes in late December if significant rain does not fall across the northern catchments.
