Pooncarie school children Cooper Moroni, 7, Riley Moroni, 10, Isabelle Moroni, 8, Sophia Moroni, 5, and Dekota Sheard, 5, will be able to attend their local school next year.

POONCARIE families are delighted the township’s small school will reopen next year after a six-year recess and they are hopeful the NSW Government’s decision could attract more people to the town.

Education Minister Rob Stokes on Saturday announced the school would accept enrolments for the 2019 school year with at least seven children already committed to attend the school.

The decision came after a year of lobbying from parents in the small Darling River town, who did not want their children to make a 170km daily round commute to attend school.
