WATER management reform in NSW will allow the state’s water minister to stop irrigators pumping to protect environmental flows.
But the ministerial embargo powers have not been embraced by all, with farming lobby groups, such as the NSW Irrigators Council, Cotton Australia and NSW Farmers concerned irrigators’ water rights would be restricted without any financial compensation or the right to appeal.
Greens MP Jeremy Buckingham wanted ministerial embargo powers to be even stronger.
