DESPITE warnings of an increased police presence and safety blitz over the long weekend, many drivers are still not getting the message.

Mildura police nabbed 72 people for offences ranging from drink and drug- driving to speeding and general traffic breaches as part of Operation Regal.

The operation started at midnight Friday and ran until Monday with local police administering 1155 preliminary breath tests at various random breath test stations across the city.
