LETTER: Draw a clear line when investigating police

I THINK that it is a grave political mistake for the Victorian Government to appoint a former top cop to carry out an investigation into other policemen.

It was always vital that such an investigation be truly independent and at arm’s length from Victoria Police.

The policeman concerned still has many friends in the force and it is unrealistic to think that those friendships will not have an impact on him.

It is still not too late to appoint another truly independent person to carry out a truly independent investigation.

Perceptions are everything in life and politics.
