COUNCILLOR for community safety Simon Clemence says there are no current plans to expand a roll-out of 40km/h speed zones in Mildura’s built-up areas to other towns in the municipality.
From July 1, Mildura Council will begin reducing the speed limit from 50km/h to 40km/h across 21 residential areas in Mildura as part of a landmark $3 million program to improve cyclist and pedestrian safety.
Announced in March, the suite of road safety works included $2.26 million in funding from the Transport Accident Commission and will see the council introduce a raft of measures across Mildura’s built-up areas.
“The object of the exercise is to reduce the risk to kids playing in the streets, people walking and so on,” Cr Clemence said.
