NSW in MDBA’s sights

THE Murray-Darling Basin Authority has stated its intention to crack down on compliance enforcement, with a particular area in northern NSW in the spotlight.

The MDBA this week released its compliance priorities for the year ahead, admitting the Barwon-Darling system was a key area where the need to protect environmental water and combat unauthorised pumping remained a high priority.

An MDBA analysis of flows published this year revealed extraction of water in the Barwon-Darling was a major factor in the more frequent drying of the lower Darling River.
