Former irrigator Howard Jones says a floodplain harvesting policy, with NSW handing out licences for floodplain water harvesting using earthworks, is a “fait accompli”.

LOWER Darling farmers have a battle on their hands to ensure rules governing water use in northern NSW require flows to reach the Menindee Lakes.

Farmers downstream of Menindee have pushed for the Barwon-Darling water rules to require connectivity with the lower Darling to maintain a secure supply of water for homes, towns and livestock.

Their stance has been supported by Wentworth Shire Council.
