MILDURA Airport’s new patient transfer station is operational, just in time for winter.

The first transfer is expected to take place next week after the keys to the $300,000 facility were officially handed over yesterday following a 2½ month fit-out.

Patients transported to and from the airport via air ambulance will now be protected from the elements, on cold, windy days and in times of extreme heat.

The re-purposed hanger was moved about 300m on to the tarmac using a crane before work began on the space.
