ALL the hard work and dedication has paid off for Gol Gol women’s footballer Courtney Wakefield, who will make her VFL Women’s debut for Richmond tomorrow.
The mother of two from Top Hut, near Pooncarie, makes the 1200km round trip every week to train with the Tigers and has been named on the wing for the side’s clash at Williamstown.
In an interview with Fox Footy’s On The Mark, aired on Wednesday evening, 31-year-old Wakefield spoke about her journey from motherhood to the football field, having returned to the game after a 20-year hiatus.
Giving up football at 11, the accomplished Wentworth SFNL premiership netballer said her love for the game had never died.
