COMMUNITY project group Mosaics of Merbein have started work to beautify a third cluster box of nine in the Merbein area.

The project started three years ago as a plan to beautify the concrete boxes along Merbein’s irrigation channel that link customers to the pipeline. The channel was turned into a pipeline as part of Sunraysia Modernisation Project.

About 100 volunteers over the years have helped turn smashed tiles and other materials such as marble into colourful mosaic panels covering the concrete boxes.

With each work of art taking eight months to complete, Cultivator chair and project facilitator Mark Hayes said it will engage community members over several years to beautify another six boxes.
