MILDURA is being seriously considered as the location for a $25 million food processing plant that would create 50 permanent jobs for the region.
Representatives of a Melbourne-based company visited the region on Wednesday and met Mildura councillor Glenn Milne, who described the interest as “early, but exciting”.
They are expected to return to the region within the next month to present a proposal for the development to councillors.
The development buzz follows news earlier this month that Melbourne-based operating company MeatCo had started recruiting employees for 60 local meat processing roles for the Mildura South abattoir.
Cr Milne said the food processing plant is expected to be used for converting food waste products into animal food and representatives were looking into industrial zoning for the location.
“They’re quite serious, they met with me because they wanted to know a bit about the background of Mildura,” he said.
