FROM cutting up trees left in the wake of a storm to helping find children who have wandered away from their homes, Mildura’s SES volunteers assist with a variety of jobs each year.
On Wednesday, the Sunraysia community, along with people across the country, are encouraged to celebrate the hard work of SES volunteers by dressing in orange and posting a photo to social media with the hashtag #thankyouSES as part of Wear Orange Wednesday or WOW day.
In an average year, local volunteers respond to about 180 call outs.
However, in recent years local storms have seen that number explode with crews attending to about 250 jobs in the 2017 storm alone, 500 in 2016’s Remembrance Day storm and 740 in the 2011 weather event.
