WENTWORTH Shire Council will consider its funding priorities in the coming weeks after NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro announced a $20 million package for councils in the state’s far west to help establish two joint organisations (JO).

JOs are four-council models intended to provide a platform for local council and state collaboration to deliver regional priorities, such as jobs, education, housing, roads and transport.

During a Wentworth Shire Council meeting in February, councillors carried a motion for the shire to join Balranald, Broken Hill and Central Darling councils in the far south-west JO.

Wentworth Shire Mayor Melisa Hederics said this JO would receive $6 million from the package in one-off grants.

The NSW Government said the JO was required to submit its key priorities 30 days from its start, however Cr Hederics has not indicated what these will be for the shire.
