DESPITE a strong start to the Millewa football season, Werrimull co-coach Jamie Roberts believes the Magpies won’t peak until the second half of the year.

Werrimull take on Meringur, who are showing promising early signs, in the centrepiece match of tomorrow’s Millewa Mega Day, on which all six clubs’ football and netball sides play in consecutive matches at Gol Gol.

Four rounds in, the second-placed Magpies have three wins while the resurgent Meringur – who broke a long finals drought last season – sit third with two wins, a draw and a healthy percentage.

Injured playing co-coach Roberts said the best was yet to come from his side, but they were wary of the improving Roos.

“We’ve had a lot of new players come into the club so we expect the second half of the year to be where we lift our standards a little bit and come home strong,” Roberts said.

“But Meringur have been building over the past few years so we’re expecting pretty good things out of them.

“Hopefully being the final game of the day, we can put on a bit of a show for everybody.”
