THE number of Sunraysia locals in housing crisis has spiked, with the amount of people assisted this financial year already exceeding projections, according to housing service Haven; Home, Safe.
Across the Mallee, the organisation has helped 1344 people who were either homeless or needing emergency housing help in the financial year to date, which is 35 per cent more than projected for 2017-18.
While the figure is for the entire region, Haven; Home, Safe, which offers private rental assistance and homeless accommodation, said the majority of those people would have been assisted in Mildura.
In that time, the Mildura team helped nearly as many clients as Bendigo, despite a considerable population difference.
