SAFETY concerns at the Bannerton Solar Farm have been flagged by past and present workers and the Electrical Trades Union, with claims workers were almost killed and management at the site has been a “free for all” to date.
ETU Victorian state secretary Troy Gray said while the project is good for the Sunraysia region, it has “gone off the rails” with the labour hire being done by recruiter Workpac.
Mr Gray said there are currently more than 100 European backpackers working at the farm, doing work that could be keeping locals in jobs.
“These are good labouring jobs that can done by every farmer's son and daughter,” he said.
