Water nod saves local investment – Peter Crisp

MILLIONS of dollars of investment and local employment was saved when the Senate approved a package of water efficiency projects, Member for Mildura Peter Crisp says.

Mr Crisp welcomed Labor’s late agreement with the Federal Government to block a Greens disallowance motion that threatened to scuttle the package of 36 projects designed to deliver water savings equal to 605GL for the environment.

“Instead of Mildura being decimated, we have a huge project that’s going to be delivered with federal money by the Mallee CMA,” he said.

“If the disallowance had got up, we would have been facing buybacks. It would have been a repeat of what we saw happening eight to 10 years ago, where they had an enormous impact on us.”
