MILDURA Airport is expected to make a bid to become the home of Qantas Group’s new pilot academy, set to open in regional Australia in 2019.
Qantas has formally invited regional cities and state governments from across Australia to respond to a proposal outlining criteria for the location of the academy.
It is looking for a regional centre with an airfield, access to uncongested
airspace and the infrastructure to support up to 100 aspiring pilots, with the potential to grow to 500 students per year by training pilots for other airlines.
The academy is also expected to employ more than 40 people in training and support roles and create partnership opportunities with local businesses and suppliers.
