ASH Connick and Bernard Rigby are now key off-field figures in Sunraysia’s interleague football setup preparing for next weekend’s showdown with Central Murray, but not too long ago they were right in the thick of it as players – in both camps.

Connick is now Sunraysia’s coach while Rigby is the SFNL board member tasked with overseeing the entire campaign, but both played in Sunraysia and Central Murray’s two previous matches against each other in 2001 and 2003.

In 2001, Connick coached Wentworth, with Rigby playing under him while in 2003 the pair were at Swan Hill in the Central Murray league with Rigby an assistant coach to Connick.

“I got brought into the squad late on that one,” Rigby said about the 2001 12-point loss to Central Murray.

“It was in Swan Hill I’m pretty sure, I think I was only 19 that year.

“Interleague was a fairly big thing back then.”
