FOR many who grew up in Afghanistan, it wasn’t unusual to see hundreds of kites fill the sky.
Sunraysia Mallee Ethnic Communities Council (SMECC) community support worker Sayema Najafi distinctly remembers watching on as many young boys learnt how to create kites from nothing but plastic bags.
When thinking of something the youth group could create for the 2018 Sunraysia Multicultural Festival, she was reminded of that particular past time.
“All the boys made them back home,” she said.
“You couldn’t buy them at home, so they were all made from scratch, plastic bags were the most popular way to make them.”
