RED Cliffs took a big step towards justifying the external pre-season hype with a 31-point win over Irymple at Quandong Park on Saturday night.

Much of the talk surrounding Red Cliffs going into the 2018 season was centred on their recruiting efforts and, tested by the reigning premiers first up, the Tigers showed how far they’d come with a five goal to one final quarter to snuff out what was looking like a stirring Irymple comeback for a 12.12 (84) to 8.5 (53) win.

Senior co-coach Ash Connick said the performance met his and the coaching staff’s expectations.

“We were confident this week, we had a really big pre-season,” he said.
