Fire crews battle house blaze

FIREFIGHTERS say working smoke detectors helped residents escape a house fire in Mildura yesterday afternoon.

Crews from Mildura Fire Brigade were called to an address in Evans Way about 2.50pm to find four residents evacuated from the house, with smoke billowing from the front door.

“It was reported someone was still in the house, so we had to do a search,” senior station officer Michelle Snow said.

“But no one else was located and everyone was accounted for.”

Police were also on scene to control traffic.
