THERE is nothing new about using large lures to target Murray cod other than a recent boom in their availability.
In the early days oversized aeroplane spinners were towed behind wooden boats to the rhythmic stroke of water drawn oars.
Back then big lures were the key to tempting a strike and many a giant cod fell foul of these large rotating lures.
In the years to follow, lure size fell away as a range of hand-crafted timber models made their way onto the cod fishing scene.
And so it was for a few decades until lure makers once more ventured the road of building larger lures.
