VINTAGE has come to an end for wine grape growers across Sunraysia.
For Mildura Chateau Winery owner and winemaker Lance Milne (pictured), the only challenge this year was the 16-day heatwave last January.
“Apart from that, we had no disease outbreak from the wet weather so we can talk about a sound vintage.”
Thanks to a dryer-than-usual season – Mildura received just above 5mm of rain since the start of the year – this year’s harvest proceeded smoothly.
“We started in early January and picked our last grapes last Sunday,” Wayne Falkenberg, winermaker at Lindeman’s Karadoc winery, said.
