MILDURA Airport has further upgraded its capability to recharge giant water bombers that can be used to fight bushfires across Australia’s south-east.
The recharging system – which can refill a Boeing 737 or C-130 Hercules with 15,000-20,000
litres of water in just 10 minutes – has now been connected to the Lower Murray Water system.
“We have effectively plugged it into the ‘mains’,” Mildura Airport chief executive Bill Burke said.
“This gives us added reliability and capacity, which is crucial in emergency situations.”
