MILDURA Lawn Tennis Club will be “ready, willing and able” to host another Davis Cup tie or round of the Federation Cup following the success of last week’s Pro-Tour Mildura Grand Tennis International.

Club president Ali McMeekin yesterday said that while the club hasn’t hosted a Davis Cup tie since the disastrous loss to Zimbabwe 20 years ago and has one Fed Cup tie to its name in 2009, it would eagerly welcome the opportunity to stage more major tournaments.

The club’s curator is currently preparing the 32 grass courts for the club’s next major event – its annual Easter tournament – but with an April Federation Cup venue in Australia yet to be determined, Ms McMeekin said Mildura would welcome the chance to host the event.

"Any chance we get and any time that we get to talk to anyone who has any sort of authority we're always putting Mildura Lawn Tennis Club up forward as a destination for tournaments to consider," Ms McMeekin said.

"We've been talking to our curator in general about when would be a good time to host a tournament because teh Fed Cup is coming up again in April and we would certainly be very happy to host another tie."
