Shire defies pipeline

WENTWORTH Council has refused to give its blessing to the Broken Hill pipeline after the NSW Water Minister failed to provide it with a structure plan for the $467 million project.

Wentworth, along with Mildura and Broken Hill councils, still want Niall Blair to answer questions about how the pipeline came to be chosen as the best long-term water supply solution for the Silver City and what implications, if any, its construction will have for the management of the river.

However, the council’s decision not to sign off on the project’s letter of intent won’t stop the pipeline, which is designated state significant infrastructure, being built.
