RATEPAYERS in Mildura and across Victoria could be spared a possible rate hike amid the looming recycling crisis, if the State Government reinvests a larger portion of landfill levies back into communities, according to Mildura councillor Glenn Milne.

Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) is reporting the recycling crisis is likely to result in rate rises of between 1.1 and 2.5 per cent for council’s across the state.

Earlier this year China implemented a ban on importing contaminated or low grade recycling which includes waste paper, plastics, textiles and certain types of metals.
