Mildura pokies spend soaring to record high: Alarm bells

MILDURA gamblers are on track to lose a record $27 million on pokies this financial year, with more than $75,000 a day being plunged into local machines.

The municipality’s pokies spend from July last year to January was up 10.2 per cent on the previous year, according to Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation data.

If the trend continued, 10.2 per cent would mark the biggest year-on-year increase in almost 20 years.
