Climate change takes its toll on flood plains

THERE has been a massive destruction of the flood plain environment simply because those flood plains do not get flooded anymore.

The flora and fauna that lived on those flood plains have simply for the most part disappeared.

We are facing a massive decrease in water due to climate change.

The Murray inflows for the past 20 years have been some 35 per cent or 3165 gigalitres below the long-term average.

Perth, which is about on the same latitude as us, has had a 65 per cent reduction of inflows into their dams over those same 20 years.

We are facing some very sobering decisions over the coming years.
