THE debate in relation to shooting ducks on the Brickworks Billabong has been hijacked by those wanting to make this a debate about duck shooting and the rights of shooters.
They are two very different issues.
The real issue is public safety.
At considerable expense, a walking track was developed around the billabong so that all and sundry could visit this wonderful asset and it has been rightly promoted as a visitor destination.
The thought that duck season gives someone the right to shoot in a public place is beyond my comprehension.
God forbid that someone gets killed or injured but it would be interesting to know who wears the responsibility.
Is the duck shooter or the government agency that approved the permit or both?
