IRYMPLE are in the box seat to play in the finals but face perhaps the toughest challenge in Sunraysia cricket this weekend – an in-form Mildura East at their home ground.

After a strong first-innings win over Coomealla Wentworth in round 13, coupled with enough bonus points to capitalise on Mildura West’s performance with the bat in their outright loss to Workers Gol Gol, the Swallows are fourth by a narrow margin going into the final home and away round.

Irymple captain Jordan Payne said West’s unfortunate 28 in the first innings had made the difference for the Swallows.

“If they’d gone out and made 150 in the first innings that would have been it, we wouldn’t have even been a show,” Payne said.
