Birchip stretch in train

THE first locomotive has travelled between Dunolly and Birchip as stage two of the Murray Basin Rail Project nears completion.

A phased return of freight services to the Mildura line is under way, with sections of the line to be progressively opened from south to north.

Driver training has now started on the stretch to Birchip.

As a safety precaution, trains will temporarily move at restricted speeds while drivers refamiliarise themselves with the route.
