LOVE will be in the air at Merbein P-10 College tomorrow with Cupid set to deliver more than 200 roses.

The Student Representative Council (SRC) Valentine’s Day initiative has been a popular school tradition for more than 20 years.

SRC co-ordinator, teacher and former student Jess Williams said the students love to send and receive a special gift each year.

“For the week leading up to Valentine’s Day we have had roses, chocolates, teddy bears and candy for sale for all of the high school students to send their friends,” she said.

“It’s really successful, we often raise more than $400 each year, which helps us with purchasing new sporting equipment.

“We usually sell out of 200 roses, 30 teddy bears and lots of chocolate, everyone loves chocolate.”

In the final session of the day, the five SRC representatives from Year 10 pose as Cupid and deliver the gifts.

“They just love it – when they get to high school it’s a day they look forward to as they have all seen it on the movies,” Ms Williams said.

“It’s all for a good cause and they love letting their friends know that they appreciate them.”

This year the funds will go towards improving the end-of-term activities, including the school discos.
