Records hint at a cooling-off period

THIS week’s string of scorching days over 40C could be the final such event of the summer if last year’s conditions are anything to go by.

It seems the weather gods are providing us a repeat of 2017, with this week’s forecast of four days over 40C experienced at exactly the same time last year.

In the second week of last February, Mildura sweltered through four consecutive days over 40C, including two days of 46C on the Thursday and Friday.

However those were the only 40C-plus days that month and the last of the summer.
