MILDURA police are reminding residents to take precautions to prevent their homes from being targeted by thieves during the Christmas holiday period.
Leading Senior Constable Mark Baumann said the festive season was usually a busy time for burglaries in the region.
Local crime statistics suggested there was a “noticeable” increase in these types of incidents across December and January, which Ldg Sen-Constable Baumann put down to homes being vacant while residents were on holiday.
“We’ve said in the past, a lot of our thieves are opportunistic thieves, so whether they’re looking for unlocked cars or vacant homes or unlocked garages,” he said.
