There were 50 new family violence intervention orders
applied for – that’s just from the weekend
DESPITE a big funding increase over the past year, a key social service provider says it still needs more staff to meet demand.
The Mallee Sexual Assault Unit and Mallee Domestic Violence Services received the increase this year and put on another 12 staff.
However, chief executive Joanne Sheehan-Patterson said more were needed.
“(The Monday before last) there were 50 new family violence intervention orders applied for (in the Family Court) – that’s just from the weekend,” she said.
Last year the organisation had a surplus of $109,022, but this year that increased to $1,690,320.
