Power costs hitting hard

Mildura Fruit Juices says its electricity costs have risen nearly $500,000 in two years, despite using about the same amount of power.

Company general manager Hugh Baird said power had become one of its biggest costs and that the company was now looking at ways to reduce burdens, which may include reducing prices to growers.

However, Mr Baird said the company had also been striving to be more energy-efficient and attempts to negotiate with their power supplier had “fallen on deaf ears”.
